Leroy Jethro Gibbs, what have you gotten yourself into?
Tonight’s season finale of NCIS promised that the team would be put to the test, and they were. But I don’t think anyone could have guessed the episode would lead to THREE resignations.
Before you keel over from shock, let me explain how we got there:
In the finale, Parsons (Colin Hanks) continued his quest to bring down Gibbs and was on his way to scoring an indictment of our favorite silver fox leader. (He had plenty of paper trail ammo to do so.) But we all know Team NCIS never goes down without a fight.
They all met up at Gibbs Doomsday Prepper-esque cabin in the woods to think of a plan, but were called away to a case of a Navy SEAL who got the Paltrow-in-Seven treatment. At this point, I fully expected the story to diverge from our main plotline, but later, we learned that the SEAL’s death was connected to…bigger things. Exactly what? Well, we’re not entirely sure. But it has to do with radiation and torture and the murder of Eli David, which “opened a political can of worms,” according to Morrow. In a convo with Vance, Morrow revealed that Bodnar didn’t kill Kazmi. “I’m telling you we did it, Leon,” Morrow said. “Iran and Israel could duke it out while we can focus on the real threat,” he said. “We’re all so worried about Iran and North Korea when the real threat is here on home soil.”
Meanwhile, Gibbs was eventually cleared of all possible charges. But it came at a price…
Ziva, Tony and McGee ended up resigning and taking the fall for all of the things Parsons had dug up. They only did that, however, so Gibbs could go away on a super-secret mission and earn the team a “clean slate.” The trio trusted Gibbs enough to make that bold move, and I trust that he’ll do what he needs to get them back together. But I’m also worried about what Gibbs has gotten into.
At the end of the episode, we skipped ahead four months in the future and found Gibbs preparing to kill someone with a sniper rifle!! POSSIBLY Fornell. (More likely it’s the person getting out of the car, though.)
The amount of questions I have overwhelms me.
+ I loved Mike Franks’ return/words of wisdom. I want Muse Watson to narrate my life.
+ Tiva fans — What did you think about that confrontation in the forest? Ziva apologized for hurting Tony and told him that she cared too much about their friendship to make things awkward between them. Then he kissed her on the forehead. These two kill me with sweetness. Quit Playin’ Games with My Heart, NCIS!
+ “I already gave them a heads up.” — McGee at the crime scene. Ha!
+ Palmer’s adopting a baby!
+ McGee is seeing someone named Delilah. I don’t know how to feel about this.
+ Nice callback to the Pedro Hernandez case. Those were some top-notch episodes in the NCIS history books, and I knew that weasel Parsons was going to dig something up on them.
All thoughts in comments. And come back later tonight for a post-mortem with EP Gary Glasberg.
