Discovery Channel is getting very daring in its latest endeavor to teach viewers about wildlife.
In the upcoming special Great Bear Stakeout, which Discovery made with BBC, a team of experts venture to Alaska to chronicle grizzly bears for the full five months they’re out of hibernation, culminating with their annual salmon run. Where the daring comes in is how very close these scientists got to the bears. Check out an EW exclusive clip of a close encounter below.
Camera gear designed especially for the show and spy cams allowed the team to film bears in a new way that Discovery says gives viewers “an intimacy rarely seen.”
Among the special’s producing team is John Cavanagh (Frozen Planet) and Vanessa Berlowitz (Frozen Planet, Planet Earth).
Great Bear Stakeout airs Sunday, May 12 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. The special first aired on BBC in late April.
