Independence Day director Roland Emmerich confirmed he’s working on two sequels to the 1996 alien-invasion blockbuster: ID Forever Part 1 and Part 2. The director tells EW that original lead Will Smith will not return because he’s now ”too big a star.”

Steven Soderbergh’s retirement from film directing won’t include a ton of downtime: He’s developing a 12-hour miniseries based on John Barth’s 1960 satirical novel The Sot-Weed Factor.

Conan O’Brien will be on TBS at least through 2015. The network added another year to the host’s contract for his late-night show, Conan.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt will host a variety show based on his collaborative site hitRECord for the newly announced cable network Pivot, which launches Aug. 1.
