The Cover Shoot

”Scandal”-ous style

Posted on

”We wanted to capture the sexual tension between Olivia and Fitz, so I looked for things that were sexy, but in an unexpected way,” fashion stylist Hayley Atkin says of helping Scandal stars Kerry Washington and Tony Goldwyn get into character. For Washington that meant trying on several dresses before choosing a lingerie-inspired satin-and-lace number by Johanna Johnson. As for Goldwyn (in Dolce & Gabbana), ”I only brought tuxedos, so he didn’t have much of a say,” Atkin admits. “But he did get to choose the one he liked best!”

In keeping with the color palette for the shoot, Jolene Brodeur kept Washington’s nails neutral. ”It’s a contemporary yet sophisticated look that’s representative of [Olivia],” says the manicurist, who created the shade by applying one coat of CND Shellac in Cocoa, followed by one coat of Romantique. Unlike Olivia, ”Kerry loves to have her nails done,” says Brodeur. ”When she can, she’ll do something fun and fashion-forward, like blue tips.”
