Christopher Meloni could be on his way back to broadcast TV — but not to an NBC procedural. The former SVU actor who did a stint as a vampire on True Blood last season is going to try his hand at comedy in an untitled single-camera project in development for Fox this fall.
Produced by Warner Bros. TV, the pilot from Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker, Bill Lawrence and Jeff Ingold is based on the book I Suck at Girls by Halpern and is the story about a boy becoming a man, and a man becoming a father, in a time before coming of age was something you could Google.
Meloni will play Jack Dunlevy, an ex-military man who’s an oncologist. Here’s the official description: “He talks to everyone like they’re 75-years-old and dying of cancer: just a no bulls–t guy. Up to this point in his life, Jack’s just been the guy who’s gone to work early in the morning, come home late, eaten the big piece of chicken, yells at his kids, and goes to bed. But now his wife is going to law school, and he’s going to have to take a much more active role in his kids’ lives.”
