Music docs: they’re so hot right now! Perhaps that’s why Lady Gaga gave all her Little Monsters a very special Christmas present yesterday by announcing that her “Cake” collaborator Terry Richardson is making a film documenting Gaga’s life, as well as “the creation of ARTPOP” — Gaga’s upcoming album — and the artist’s devoted fanbase.
This won’t be the Mama Monster’s first flirtation with a documentary camera. In May of 2011, HBO aired Lady Gaga Presents the Monster Ball Tour: At Madison Square Garden, a concert special that focused mainly on onstage action.
The Richardson film will presumably be a bit more intimate, though Gaga hasn’t revealed any other details about it (including a presumptive release date). She did, however, address ARTPOP‘s progress in another tweet: “Thank you for being so patient waiting for my new album ARTPOP I hope this gets u excited for things to come. I love you with all my heart!”
The album should drop sometime in early 2013; in the meantime, we’ll have to be content with Gaga’s tantalizing Twitter bio, which states that she is what results “when POP sucks the tits of ART.”
Gaga also thanked Richardson for making the doc with her in a third tweet, saying that she loves him and adding, “I have looked up to you and your work for so long, its a dream come true!”
The musician and the oft-controversial photographer have worked together several times before, joining forces for that indelible meat-covered Vogue Hommes Japan cover and an explicit nude photo shoot. Gaga’s manager and Richardson are also, apparently, working together on a new beverage called PopWater, a healthier alternative to soda that doubles as a less healthy alternative to regular water.
