Walt Disney Pictures announced today that Planes will land in theaters on Aug. 9, 2013.

The movie, which takes place in the world established by Pixar’s Cars and Cars 2, follows a young crop-duster name Dusty who attempts to compete in a perilous around-the-world race.

Planes was originally slated for a direct-to-video release and a European theater run. Its new release date pits it against Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium and the Jennifer Aniston-Jason Sudeikis road trip comedy We’re the Millers.
