The movie that Guillermo del Toro was supposed to direct is opening tomorrow. Four years ago, the director of Pan’s Labyrinth and the tantalizingly unfinished Hellboy trilogy set off to New Zealand to make two Hobbit films, back when the idea of a mere two Hobbit films sounded like overkill. Del Toro ultimately left the project, and opted to make a movie about gigantic sea monsters from another dimension battling giant anime robots controlled by beautiful people in form-fitting exoskeletons. The movie is called Pacific Rim, the trailer just hit the internet, and there are two things you have to know: It apparently features the voice GLaDOS, the demon supercomputer from Portal; and it definitely features Idris Elba using his native British accent.
