Not at all duets, God bless them, fulfill their full potential.
But some do! Eighties and Nineties R&B star Jody Watley has teamed up with the Milwaukee producer-siblings in French Horn Rebellion, who’ve been on the rise lately on the strength of recent remixes and re-edits of the likes of Will Smith and Database.
How did these two parties connect, you ask? “We were invited to back-up Jody for her surprise appearance at a show in LA,” brothers David and Robert Perlick-Molinari tell EW. “The connection was immediate… Nerding-out on stage making people dance. After the show, we mentioned to Jody that we were working on a new sound called Next Jack Swing and she was very interested.” (Next Jack, as they describe it, is “like New Jack, but with heavier beats and groovier bass lines.”)
Says Watley: “In the studio we bonded over our Midwestern connection — it gets real cold in Milwaukee and Chicago [Watley’s hometown], and this song was made as the antidote. The track combines old and new and hot and cold in a way that makes me want to move.”
Indeed it does. Listen to “Cold Enough” exclusive here:
