VGA 10 nominations announced

Posted on

Who wins a showdown between an assassin on the prowl in colonial America and the repulsive zombie hordes that have lurched to fame on The Walking Dead? The answer to that burning question will be answered at the VGA Ten, the Dec. 7 awards show that will air live on Spike TV.

Samuel L. Jackson is back as host of the show (we caught up with him recently to talk about the franchise and his own video game passions, you check out the video below) which air on Spike and also will be streamed internationally on Spike.com and GameTrailers.com able. The show can also be viewed on Xbox consoles in the United States and in some international markets.

Jackson’s favorite games are shooters and the same goes for the VGAs — the nominated games this year have an impressive body count. Overall, Borderlands 2, Halo 4 and Journey lead all games with seven nominations each.

In the game of the year category, Assassin’s Creed III (Ubisoft/Ubisoft Montreal) and  The Walking Dead: The Game (Telltale Games) will square off against Dishonored (Bethesda Softworks/Arkane Studios), Journey (Sony Computer Entertainment/thatgamecompany) and Mass Effect 3 (Electronic Arts/BioWare).

Linkin Park will also perform “Castle of Glass,” a track from this past summer’s Living Things album that also did a tour of duty in EA’s Medal of Honor: Warfighter and picked up a nomination in the “best song in a game” category.

And then there’s Tenacious D. The duo of Jack Black and Kyle Gass return to the VGA stage this year with their unique face-melting talents and a performance of the title track from their third studio album, Rize of the Fenix, released in May.

Plenty of fans will be tuning in to see the exclusive trailers for upcoming releases. There’s a category for most anticipated game, too. The nominees: BioShock Infinite (2K Games/Irrational Games); Grand Theft Auto V (Rockstar Games); South Park: The Stick of Truth (THQ/Obsidian Entertainment); The Last of Us (Sony Computer Entertainment/Naughty Dog);  and Tomb Raider (Square Enix/Crystal Dynamics).
