As The X Factor started its live shows on Wednesday night, Khloé Kardashian got quite the induction to the show when she stepped on stage with fellow new host Mario Lopez. At that moment attention was directed not at Britney Spears or Demi Lovato but at a new star: Kardashian’s chest — plenty of viewers noticed that the host wasn’t wearing a bra underneath her sheer purple top.
“May I say, Khloé, you’re looking very sexy… I think the air conditioning is on high tonight,” Simon Cowell told her.
In the press room after Thursday’s results show, Kardashian was very open to talking about her revealing first live taping. Warning: What follows is an account that veers into the anatomically specific.
As for how this all came to transpire, Kardashian took the opportunity to blame the easy target of the week: Hurricane Sandy. The clothes she had been planning to wear for this week’s shows were delayed getting to L.A. from the east coast, so she didn’t get to wear that purple top in rehearsals. The first time she wore it on stage was during the live taping.
It was Cowell who called the wardrobe malfunction to the host’s attention, when he gestured to his own chest.
“I kind of looked,” Kardashian told reporters after Thursday’s show. “From my angle I thought maybe it was nipple-y, but from what I heard, it was entire areolas. That was what the production told me in my ear. They were like, ‘Your areolas are out.'”
Millions of people saw more of Kardashian on live television than they probably bargained for, but one person who didn’t see the show that night was Lamar Odom, Kardashian’s husband. While The X Factor was taping, Odom was across town on the court of Staples Center. After he and the rest of the Los Angeles Clippers defeated the Memphis Grizzlies, Kardashian met up with the team to celebrate.
“We talked about the show, but I just forgot that part,” Kardashian said. “Today [after watching the show] he texts me, ‘Um… make sure you’re not showing your nipples tonight.'”
Did Cowell feel bad for Kardashian on her titillating first live day?
“No, I thought it was hilarious,” he told reporters. “Your first live show, you don’t wear a bra, and the studio’s freezing, of course.”
