Howard Stern’s comments about the budget cuts at Jay Leno’s The Tonight Show may have earned him a talking-to, but the shock jock isn’t backing down.
“I did hear from [NBC]. I got a threatening kinda comment from one of the executives,” Stern said on his radio show last week.
According to reports, Stern recently took to his radio show and claimed that reports of Jay Leno taking a pay cut to limit staff reductions was not the entire truth. “Jay wanted to cut staff. He’s embarrassed to do it. He didn’t want to come off as a bad guy. NBC took the hit for him, because they’re a corporation…My bullsh-t meter is going off all over the place,” he had said.
Meanwhile, Stern, who admitted that he’s had a feud with Leno “for years,” maintains he has the right to say as he wishes on his Sirius XM program. “I said, ‘Do not ask me not to talk about Jay Leno. I will f–king talk about Jay for four hours if you tell me not to. I was done with Jay. Now I’m all fired up again. F–k Jay. Take my job away from me. Who cares?”
It wasn’t all volcanic fire being spewed, however. Stern assured listeners that he enjoys his gig as a judge on America’s Got Talent, a position he’s had for less than a year. But he asked the network to not “tell me what to say.” He added: “I’m sure it was a joke, actually. No one in their right mind would tell me not to talk about something.”
