The Jackson family’s love-hate relationship with the limelight will teeter toward love when La Toya stars in her own reality series next year. Life With La Toya is one of the newest shows added to the Oprah Winfrey Network’s fall schedule. The series will follow the singer/author as she juggles her demanding career with her even more daunting family life.
Following Michael Jackson’s untimely death three years ago, the family has been under more public scrutiny than ever. They’re currently embroiled in a high-profile custody battle and family matriarch Katherine was reported missing over a week ago (she was actually at a resort and allegedly kept from communicating with outsiders). So let’s just say the show won’t need to be edited for heightened drama.
Oddly enough La Toya, 56, wasn’t involved in the family’s 2010 reality series The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty, which was canceled halfway into its second season on A&E. Most recently, she starred in NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice — she was fired twice within the same season last year — and guest judged season three of RuPaul’s Drag Race as well as the 17th cycle of America’s Next Top Model.
OWN’s other new reality programs include The Customer is Always Right, in which prominent American companies tap customers to head their organization for a week, and Neighborvention, about communities coming together to help neighbors in crisis.
”Our viewers want to be entertained, to laugh and to have an ‘aha’ moment,” said OWN co-president Sheri Salata in a press release. ”We are confident our new programming is delivering on that promise, infusing the core values of the Oprah brand into everything we put on the air.”
