The first of the final six episodes of The Closer on Monday lured 6.1 million viewers, which TNT says is the largest audience for a returning cable series this summer.
In key demos, the Kyra Sedgwick starrer attracted 1.2 million adults 18-49 and 1.7 million adults 25-54.
The show was followed by the premiere of Perception, which averaged 5.6 million viewers.
The Closer will wrap for good on Aug. 13, and will immediately be followed by the debut of the spinoff Major Crimes starring Mary McDonnell as Capt. Sharon Raydor.
