The Song: Andrew Belle feat. Erin McCarley, ”In My Veins”

The Scene: It seemed that Beckett (Stana Katic) had lost Castle’s (Nathan Fillion) love for good on May 7. But following a near-death experience, the guarded detective dropped her defenses and turned up rain-soaked on Castle’s doorstep, showing unmistakably how much he meant to her.

Desperate Housewives

The Song: Johnny Mathis, ”Wonderful! Wonderful!”

The Scene: Mathis’ 1957 crooner chestnut provided the circle-of-life glue in the series finale as the ornery Mrs. McCluskey (Kathryn Joosten) took her final breaths and Julie (Andrea Bowen) delivered her baby on the cusp of an already chaotic wedding.

The Vampire Diaries

The Song: Sigur Rós, ”Dauðalagið”

The Scene: Before Diaries‘ “Oh no, they didn’t!” ending on May 10, the Icelandic outfit’s tranquil, otherworldly new single was juxtaposed against Elena’s (Nina Dobrev) life-or-death struggle, soundtracking her willing sacrifice and setting up one heck of a surprise ending. (Spoiler alert: She’s a vampire!)

New Girl

The Song: AC/DC, ”You Shook Me All Night Long”

The Scene: A series of serious events rocked the sitcom’s four roommates as the season drew to a close, and in the May 8 finale, a late-night dance party to the high-voltage rockers’ 1980 classic lightened the mood and allowed the cast to show off their (head-) bangin’ midnight moves.

Hart of Dixie

The Song: Matt Nathanson feat. Sugarland, ”Run”

The Scen: The season-long simmer between Zoe (Rachel Bilson) and Wade (Wilson Bethel) reached a boil on May 14. After a torrential downpour forced them to take shelter in an abandoned barn, the pair stopped fighting the sexy and made sweet, sweet love to this I-burn-for-you ballad.

How I Met Your Mother

The Song: Cat Stevens, ”The Wind”

The Scene: Fans cried tears of joy on May 14 as the show revealed that Barney’s (Neil Patrick Harris) bride was…wait for it!…Robin (Cobie Smulders). Stevens’ meditation on fate and faith was a fitting capper to the endless will-they-or-won’t-they tension.
