Phillip Philips just won American Idol! Of course, we could have pretty much predicted that result when we first laid eyes on him back in January. That’s because Phillips is now the fifth straight white-guy-playing-guitar to win the show (along with David Cook, Kris Allen, Lee DeWyze, and Scotty McCreery). But predictability in terms of winners is just one of the problems plaguing a show which lost around 30 percent of its audience from just a year ago. Are the contestants to blame? The judges? The format? On the newest edition of the InsideTV Podcast, Jessica Shaw and I brainstorm ideas to help the reality competition show get back on track.
But that’s not all. We also share our thoughts on the big Glee season finale. Was it a satisfying graduation? And when it comes to the graduates (Rachel, Finn, Quinn, Kurt, Puck, Mercedes, Santana), which characters do you want to keep seeing more of, and which should just sort of fade away into oblivion. (The Glee discussion starts at 11:20 in.)
Finally, we set our sights on The Bachelorette. Was the Muppets cross promotion (featuring staged skits with Emily, Kermit and Miss Piggy) too over the top? Is Emily too boring to be the Bachelorette? And where does helicopter-riding “luxury brand manager” Kalon stack up in terms of hated Bachelorette villains? We tackle those questions and more! (The Bachelorette discussion starts at 16:45 in.)

But first let us know what you think: What would you do to fix American Idol? Which of the Glee graduates should stay and which should go? And are you loving or loathing Emily as the Bachelorette? The message boards are open for business.
