Men at Work multi-instrumentalist Greg Ham was found dead in his Melbourne home today, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.
Police were called in to investigate Ham’s mysterious death after a pair of concerned friends let themselves into the 58-year-old musician’s house, where he lived alone.
“There are a number of unexplained aspects to it which has caused our attendance here today,” homicide detective Shane O’Connell told reporters. “And we’re assisting the local detectives to determine what has occurred.”
Colin Hay, frontman of the Grammy-winning Australian group, released a statement lamenting the passing of his bandmate, who may be most remembered for contributing the distinct flute melody on the group’s 1982 hit “Down Under,” which topped charts around the world:
“We played in a band and conquered the world together,” Hay said. “I love him very much. He’s a beautiful man.”
