Lamar Odom will not play for the Dallas Mavericks, or likely any other NBA team, for the rest of the season. “The Mavericks and I have mutually agreed that it’s in the best interest of both parties for me to step away from the team,” Odom said in a statement to ESPN.com. “I’m sorry that things didn’t work out better for both of us, but I wish the Mavs’ organization, my teammates and Dallas fans nothing but continued success in the defense of their championship.”
Odom has struggled in his first season in Dallas, averaging career lows in points (6.6) and rebounds (4.1). The Mavericks will list the Kardashian costar as Inactive, meaning another team interested in trading for him in the off-season would have to assume his million-dollar contract. Odom is already ineligible for this season’s playoffs, which begin April 28, so he’s essentially finished for the year. Fortunately for him, reality television exists.
