If imitation is really the most sincere form of flattery, then the cast and crew of Downton Abbey have plenty to be happy about. Though the drama signed off for the season in late December, fans’ withdrawal symptoms have been considerably quelled thanks to the constant stream of hilarious parodies popping up in its absence. We’ve been keeping track and found a few more this week to add to the list. Most recently, Dogster brilliantly paired each character with their canine counterparts, while Downton Arby’s showed us what the series would look like if it all the angst took place over fryers at a fast-food chain (in a word: amazing). Check out those and other new favorites below and then weigh in on which spoof is best in the comments.
With a little help from a friend called Photoshop, the team at Dogster managed to find the perfect doggy companions for each character. Personal favorites include Lady Mary as a poodle and Bates as a basset hound. Though, really, it doesn’t get much better than the Dowager Countess as a Persian cat (the only feline in the bunch, because as the caption rightly declares, “No dog could possibly be as haughty as her.”)
In this re-imagining of the series, Thomas trips Bates with a slather of roast beef and Sybil falls for Branson while deep-frying curly fries. On an unrelated note, is anyone else craving a roast beef sandwich and curly fries right about now?
Fresh Prince of Downton Abbey
Move over Will Smith, Matthew Crawley is about to take your throne. The Downton heir (or at least a version of him) puts his own spin on the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song in this musical spoof.
Downton Abbey on Saturday Night Live
If you’ve failed to convince your significant other to tune into the period drama, then you might want to send this skit his way. The SNL parody tweaks the direction of the series to please the dude-centric audience of Spike TV (see setup: “There’s a MILF and a dad and they’ve got three daughters named Hot, Way Hot and The Other One.”)
Sh!t the Dowager Countess Says
Because everything the Dowager Countess says is worth repeating.
