I hate to get ahead of myself, but holy cow…
This first photo of Stephen Amell (Hung, Private Practice) as Green Arrow in The CW’s forthcoming pilot (viewable after the jump) is not what we expected.
Amell, in a suit designed by three-time Oscar-winning designer Colleen Atwood, isn’t doing much in the photo, but in this case, his lack of action speaks more than movement ever could.
The photo is moody. It’s pensive. And it looks vaguely like a poster you’d see for a summer blockbuster — in a good way. Back in February, CW’s development head Thom Sherman told EW exclusively that fans of the comic could expect just that, calling the pilot “very provocative and sophisticated and edgy.” Pilot director and executive producer David Nutter echoed the sentiment in a release today. “When I directed the pilot for Smallville, I knew that making Clark Kent relatable would be the key to audiences believing in him as a hero. Arrow is a different show — darker and harder-edged — but it’s the same core idea. We’re creating a real, believable world in which Oliver Queen can do incredible things. Colleen Atwood’s great work on the Arrow costume reflects that effort,” he said.
As previously announced, Katie Cassidy is set to star opposite Amell in the pilot.
