Get your 3-D glasses ready, Katy Perry fans. The pop star is bringing blue wigs and whipped-cream bras to a theater near you. The singer is teaming up with Paramount to make the leap to the big screen with 3-D documentary-style film on her life on and off screen. We can only assume it will be a hybrid of her recent California Dream world tour, life on the road, and snippets of her personal life.
The “Teenage Dream” singer tweeted: “Finally, my movie coming out with Paramount this summer! It’s called Katy Perry: Part of Me Presented In 3D! #KP3D.’
The film is named after her single “Part of Me,” which made its debut this year on the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and may or may not be about ex-husband Russell Brand.
Reports that Paramount approached Perry about the film only surfaced in February but a rush to the big screen isn’t unheard of for a concert movie. Justin Bieber’s movie, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never was announced in October and landed in theaters the following February. Although Perry hasn’t thrown out an exact date, a quick turn around could spell the same success for her.
Never Say Never holds the domestic box office record for a concert film with $73 million. (Michael Jackson’s Jackson’s This Is it, which grossed $261.2 million in 2009, holds the worldwide record.)
Are you excited for this 3-D pop extravaganza? Are you hoping some of Perry’s celeb friends like Nicki Minaj and Rihanna make an appearance?
