Nick Cannon discussed his ongoing health issues with People, revealing that the kidney failure that put him in the hospital earlier this year was the result of “an autoimmune disease that [doctors] found in my system,” adding that the disease “is like a lupus type of thing, but no one else in my family has it.”
Cannon was hospitalized in January for kidney failure and again, weeks later, for blood clots in his lungs. The America’s Got Talent host stepped down from his live morning radio show in mid-February, citing doctors’ orders.
“The blood clot thing was probably the scariest because… I’ve known people who have passed away from that,” Cannon said at an event in New York. “I thought I was getting better and then that happened, so that kind of came out of nowhere.”
“I’m just trying to make sure I put my health first.”
