ABC’s pilot for Beauty and the Beast, a reboot of the classic fairy tale, has cast its beast — Scottish singer and actor Darius Campbell. EW can confirm a Deadline report that Campbell will play a mysterious beastly bodyguard named Shiro who joins forces with an as-yet-uncast princess named Grace in this re-imagining of the classic story — not to be confused with the other CW Beauty and the Beast pilot. Grace’s fiancé, Gorrick, will be played by Chris Egan (Letters to Juliet).

Campbell is well known in the U.K., first coming to attention when he appeared in the TV singing competition, Popstars, and later as a finalist on Pop Idol. Since then he’s been a platinum-selling recording artist and actor, appearing in a variety of West End musicals, including Chicago and Guys and Dolls.
