Now that NBC has ordered 13 episodes of Hannibal, the next step is to find someone charismatic (and terrifying) enough to play the title role of the cannibal serial killer.
The true lead of the show will be whoever takes over the part of FBI agent Will Graham; it is, after all, an adaptation of Thomas Harris’ novel Red Dragon, a prequel to Silence of the Lambs. But Dr. Hannibal Lecter will obviously generate the most attention (and inevitable scrutiny, if he’s not cast right). Short of considering just about every male actor who has played a baddo on a TV show, it’s likely the the network will focus on younger men — even though Anthony Hopkins reprised his role in the 2002 movie from Brett Ratner. (Ed Norton played Will Graham.)
That may mean my No. 1 and No. 2 picks for Lecter, Terry O’Quinn from Lost and Denis O’Hare from True Blood, may be too mature — but I’m holding out hope. Bummer that Walt Goggins and Jason Isaacs are tied up with Justified and Awake.
