Saoirse Ronan is in negotiations with Disney to star in an action-adventure project set in 19th-century China titled Order of the Seven, EW has confirmed. (Variety first reported the story.) The project, which has been in the works for years, was initially scripted by author Michael Chabon as a martial-arts-inflected take on the Snow White story called Snow and the Seven. At one point in its development, Natalie Portman was reportedly in talks to star. But, with two Snow White films (Mirror Mirror and Snow White and the Hunstman) already heading toward theaters this year, Disney decided to jettison the fairy-tale premise and rework the story. Order of the Seven will tell the story of a young English expat who helps an outlaw band of warriors battle an evil empress. Director Michael Gracey will make his feature debut with the film, which is set to begin production this fall.
