Runway shows are known for pushing envelopes and creating controversial looks, but it begs the questions: How far is too far? Is there even such a thing? According to Mitch Winehouse, the father of the late Amy Winehouse, there is. As Paris Fashion Week is underway, Jean Paul Gaultier chose to honor the Brit pop star by outfitting his models in classic Amy looks, sending some down the runway with a cigarette in hand and the her signature thick eyeliner. Upon seeing photos of the show, People reports, her father fervently spoke out against the haute couture designer:
“It portrays a view of Amy when she was not at her best and glamorizes some of the more upsetting times in her life,” he told The Sun. ” We’re still grieving her loss, and we’ve had a difficult week with the six-month anniversary of Amy’s death.”
Winehouse also spoke out against the misuse of his daughter’s image last December, when reports of a rumored biopic about the singer surfaced.
What’s your verdict, PopWatchers? Did Gaultier really honor Amy, or just use her style for attention?
