Lythgoe: Fox axes 'So You Think You Can Dance' results show

Posted on

Fox’s summer reality series So You Think You Can Dance might be losing its results show — and not a moment too soon.

Executive producer Nigel Lythgoe tweeted Sunday that “Fox have [sic] cancelled the results show so I will have to change the format of ‘SYTYCD. At least we have another season at the end of May … Don’t worry ‘SYTYCD’ fans. I’m thrilled we have a new [season]. We’ll do our best to find some great talent starting next week in Atlanta.”

A results show is a padded luxury that only the most popular reality series can afford, since it’s typically lower rated than a performance show. Dance has dropped sharply in the ratings the past couple summers, to the point where some insiders wondered if the show would even come back this year. The move would cut an hour from the weekly Dance lineup. Fox hasn’t released its summer schedule yet or replied officially to the tweet.
