Move over Herman Cain — a controversial politician of yester-year is ready to reclaim his spotlight!

HBO films is developing a biopic about former Washington D.C. mayor Marion Barry, EW has confirmed.

Spike Lee is currently attached to direct the project, while his frequent writing partner John Ridley is penning the script. Eddie Murphy is attached to star as Barry, who (in)famously served two separate terms as mayor from 1979-1991 and 1995-1999.

In between those two terms, Barry was slammed with drug charges after a video surfaced of the politician smoking crack cocaine. He ended up serving six months in prison before returning to office.

What do you think about the project? Would you watch? Or are you so over political drama right now?
