A 'Glee' breakout is born

The Fox hit closed out its Dec. 6 episode with a cover of buzzy New York band fun.’s ”We Are Young.” So what’s their story?

When a certain TV smash about singing teenagers asked Nate Ruess to cover his band fun.’s ”We Are Young,” it was a no-brainer. ”We’re insane musical-theater fans,” fun.’s frontman tells EW. In the episode, New Directions celebrate their triumph at sectionals with the rousing, Queen-esque rocker. Hopefully it will lead viewers to the band’s original, a duet with intergalactic R&B star Janelle Monée now on iTunes (it will also be on the band’s sophomore disc, Some Nights). As for their odd punctuation? ”Well, fun? is even weirder,” jokes Ruess, 29. ”Fun! feels a little too forceful. And fun without any punctuation was already taken.” Either way, it sounds like they may have a hit on their hands — period.
