Freddie Highmore, Emma Roberts In this derivative indie drama that wants to be a modern-day Catcher in the Rye, Highmore plays the Holden Caulfield part and Roberts is the cool girl who befriends him. D+ (Also on iTunes)

Girl, Interrupted (1999, R)
Winona Ryder, Angelina Jolie Ryder is the ostensible star of this drama about young women in a psych ward in the mid-1960s, but it’s Jolie who steals the show as a charismatic sociopath — a performance that won her an Oscar. (On Netflix instant viewing) A-
