TV That Rocks

Posted on

Parks and Recreation

The song The Gabe Dixon Band, ”All Will Be Well” (2005)

The scene Andy (Chris Pratt) and April (Aubrey Plaza) busted out of Pawnee to fulfill a bucket-list dream: seeing the Grand Canyon. The piano-rockers’ sweet ballad played over their Nov. 3 road trip and arrival at the stunning vista. And…cue confused Andy: ”Where’s all the faces? The presidents?”

Revenge

The song Kurt Vile, ”Baby’s Arms” (2011)

The scene Rich boy, poor boy! After dropping in on barkeep suitor Jack (Nick Wechsler) at the Stowaway, Emily Thorne (Emily VanCamp) returned to the arms of preppy dreamboat Daniel (Joshua Bowman); Vile’s spare guitar stunner sound-tracked their romantic Nov. 2 romp in the Hamptons surf.

The Vampire Diaries

The song Greg Laswell, ”This Woman’s Work” (2009)

The scene When evil spirits invaded Mystic Falls, it was up to Caroline (Candice Accola), Bonnie (Kat Graham), and Bonnie’s grandmother (Jasmine Guy) to cast them out in the Oct. 27 episode. Laswell’s airy, mournful take on Kate Bush’s 1988 ballad underscored their combined lady power.

The Good Wife

The song Sleigh Bells, ”Riot Rhythm” (2010)

The scene The Brooklyn noise-pop duo’s staticky stomper made two appearances on Oct. 23: first as Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) met with her daughter’s vaguely hostile street-dancing tutor (Anne Marsen), and again when she visited droll murderer Colin Sweeney (Dylan Baker) in prison.

New Girl

The song Yellowman, ”Zungguzungguguzungguzeng” (1983)

The scene Prepping for a date with indeterminately sarcastic co-worker Amanda (Lake Bell), Nick (Jake Johnson) flexed his single-guy mojo on Nov. 1 by stripping in his bedroom to the classic ’80s reggae jam — until Jess (Zooey Deschanel) walked in and accidentally caught a full-frontal view of his ”pianist.”

Glee

The song Teddy Thompson, ”Take Care of Yourself” (2011)

The scene Irish exchange student Rory Flanagan (The Glee Project co-winner Damian McGinty) aced his New Directions audition crooning British folkster Thompson’s dreamy throwback tune on Nov. 1 — eliciting ”awwws” from Rachel (Lea Michele) and seething jealousy from Kurt (Chris Colfer).
