Boston’s suppliers of Get Well Soon balloon bouquets may need to prepare for a deluge: Adele has successfully undergone laser microsurgery on her vocal cords to stop recurrent bleeding and prevent possible rupture from a benign polyp, according to a spokesman at Massachusetts General Hospital (via the Los Angeles Times).

The 23-year-old London-bred Grammy winner was recently forced to cancel the remainder of her tour and appearances this year in support of her sophomore album, 21, which is currently on track to become the best-selling release of 2011.

She is expected to make a full recovery, though there is no official word from her record label, Columbia, on exactly when she will be well enough to resume performing.

The surgery was overseen by Dr. Steven Zeitels, who performed a similar procedure on Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler in 2006.
