Pan Am, Housewives slip in ratings as Family Guy reigns

Pan Am

The second week of ABC’s Pan Am lowered the drama’s ratings altitude, but it sure wasn’t alone as most Sunday shows declined from their premieres.

NBC’s Sunday Night Football once again came out on top, with the Jets vs. Ravens game delivering a 12.7 household rating. That’s down 11 percent from last year’s Bears-Giants game, but still plenty to crush the competition.

CBS was second thanks to some NFL of its own, with overrun crowding into primetime and pushing the network’s lineup back 23 minutes. That messes with these early ratings, but right now it appears as if The Amazing Race, Good Wife and CSI: Miami were all roughly in line with last week’s performances. Fox came third, its animated block doing strong once again, though declining across the board from last week’s debuts that were aided by a football lead-in: Simpsons (6.1 million viewers, 3.0 adults 18-49 rating), Cleveland (5.5 million, 2.6), Family Guy (6.9 million, 3.5) and American Dad (5.7 million, 2.7) were all down between 10 and 23 percent. Family Guy was the highest-rated of the non-sports shows.

Finally there was ABC, which premiered America’s Funniest Home Videos — yes, it’s still on! Your parents’ YouTube (6.4 million, 1.5) was down 21 percent from last season. Extreme Makeover (7.1 million, 2.1) was down just a tad. Desperate Housewives (9 million, 2.9) fell a reasonable 9 percent.

And finally, Pan Am (7.7 million, 2.5) fell 19 percent from its premiere. That’s a bigger drop than you hope to see, but not totally alarming either — it’s still likely enough to beat out CSI: Miami in the hour.
