Time to step aside, Alec Baldwin. Some more actors will soon need to bask in the glow of getting the opportunity to host Saturday Night Live. NBC announced today that Ben Stiller and Anna Faris will host SNL on Oct. 8 and 15, respectively. It will mark the second time both stars will be headlining the show. (Stiller, who was a cast member for just a few episodes back in 1989, hasn’t graced Studio 8H as a host since 1998, while Faris gave it a go back in 2008.)
So what can we expect — or at least hope to expect — from the funny stars? Since Stiller will be promoting his upcoming comedy Tower Heist, don’t be too surprised to see some high-profile cameos. (Hey, if Baldwin can get his Oscar-hosting buddy Steve Martin to stop by, maybe Stiller can get Eddie Murphy to do the same? Eh, probably not, but we can settle for Jay Pharoah’s impression.) Even though Stiller never really had a fair shot at doing sketch comedy, the guy is really good at it (RIP, The Ben Stiller Show), which he should be able to prove when he hosts again. I’m mostly just holding out on the vain hope that Stiller’s Zoolander will somehow meet Bill Hader’s Stefon during Weekend Update and we’ll all lapse into some bizarre space time continuum at New York’s hottest clubs. (Sidenote: Stiller will be accompanied by musical guests Foster the People, ensuring you’ll have “Pumped Up Kicks” stuck in your head well through Halloween.)
As for Faris, who will have musical guest Drake by her side with his own brand of earworms, well, we’ve long known that she’s one of the funniest ladies out there. So long as she doesn’t make us endure the trailer for her new comedy What’s Your Number? one more time, we’re counting on hers to be a solid show, too. Plus: Fingers crossed her adorable husband Andy Dwyer, er, Chris Pratt stops by!
Thankfully, the wait for Stiller and Faris won’t be dreadful, as we’ve got Emmy-winner Melissa McCarthy, who will be making her SNL debut, hosts this week’s episode with musical guest Lady Antebellum.
