Emmys 2011: EW's Dave Karger on the red carpet!

Posted on

EW’s own Dave Karger took to the red carpet before last night’s Emmys and got some surprising answers from the nominees. Which past winner declared she had “blood in [her] mouth for another Emmy”? Who threatened physical violence against Jon Hamm? (Who would dare?!) Who received the news of his nomination while going to the bathroom? Which Glee star admitted missing out on The Glee Project? Find out these answers, plus inside X Factor info from Paula Abdul, Parks and Recreation scoop from Adam Scott, and more from everyone from Ty Burrell to Jon Cryer after the jump.

Points for humility go to Burrell, who incorrectly predicted co-star Ed O’Neill would pick up the statue for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy before winning it himself less than an hour later. (You owe us a golden robot, Burrell!) John Slattery was in a less generous mood as he joked he’d have to beat up cast mate Jon Hamm if he was named Best Actor in a Drama and Slattery was left out in the cold. (Much to the pleasure of Kyle Chandler and Peter Dinklage fans, they both were.) Three-time Emmy winner Laura Linney also had violence on the brain as she said she was “hungry… blood in my mouth for another Emmy” — don’t worry, she was only joking.

Among the other highlights, Chris Colfer confessed he’s never seen an episode of The Glee Project, Lea Michele snarker Sarah Hyland made an appearance, Jon “That Guy from Pretty in Pink” Cryer had nothing but complimentary words for new co-star Ashton Kutcher, Louis C.K. revealed in typical fashion that he learned of his dark horse nomination while using the bathroom, Paula Abdul said mysteriously “I think Simon thought I wouldn’t be happy” about the group she was assigned to mentor on The X Factor, plus thanks and praise from EWwy Award winners Anna Torv (Fringe) and Matt Czuchry (The Good Wife).
