'The Sing-Off' season 3 preview with Sam Tsui

Posted on

We’re less than a week away from the season 3 premiere of the glorious a cappellooza known as The Sing-Off, and as your faithful pun-counting, cardigan-complimenting recapper, I can barely contain my excitement!

EW has obtained an exclusive look behind the scenes of the show’s new season, which looks to be bigger and better than ever before now that it’s anchoring NBC’s Monday nights this fall. In the video below, The Sing-Off‘s new Digital Correspondent, Sam Tsui (whom I’ve watched on YouTube for years — I’m not just saying that, see?), takes us onto the Sony sound stage, and introduces us to some of the new contestants.

Who’s exciting me? Well, The Yellow Jackets look like they might be an early personal favorite — they seem goofy-and-proud like the criminally underrated On The Rocks were last year. Also, I’m excited about quintet The Cat’s Pajamas. They’ve got years of experience, and oftentimes, the groups with the fewest members create some of the best harmonies on the show. If they’re anything like Nashville crooners Street Corner Symphony (I still say they were robbed last year!), I’m looking forward to them.

Check out Mr. Tsui showing off his commendable a cappellaptitude (yet worrisome lack of pun usage) below!

Also, here’s a bonus video of Sam singing a very KurtHugoSchneider-esque medley of The Sing-Off judges’ tunes. He mashes up Ben Folds’ veritable a cappella anthem “Gone,” Sara Bareilles’ “Love Song,” and Shawn Stockman’s Boyz II Men ballad “On Bended Knee.” It’s mighty impressive, even if I was a little let down that host Nick Lachey didn’t get a shout out — “On Bended Knee” was just asking to flow into “The Hardest Thing” by 98 Degrees, right?!

Readers, are you as excited for the new season of The Sing-Off as I am?
