Film director and Hollywood royalty Sofia Coppola married longtime boyfriend Thomas Mars in Italy on Saturday, reports People. The civil ceremony took place at Palazzo Margherita, the villa owned by Sofia’s father Francis Ford Coppola in a small town called Bernalda, which her grandparents once called home.
The civil ceremony between Coppola (Lost in Translation, Somewhere) and Mars (frontman for French rock band Phoenix, responsible for the 2009 hit “1901” as well as music for several of his new wife’s films) was overseen by Leonardo Chiruzzi, the mayor of Bernalda. The intimate featured a handful of A-list guests, including George Lucas.
Coppola and Mars have been together for the better part of seven years, though they have only been engaged since May. They already have two daughters together, the youngest of which was born last year. It’s the second time down the aisle for Coppola, who was married to director Spike Jonze from 1999 until their divorce in 2003.
