Teen Choice Awards: 'Twilight,' Justin Bieber, 'Harry Potter' Rule

Posted on

If teenagers were in charge of awards shows, vampires would sweep, Selena Gomez would be rewarded for her looks, and Rebecca Black would actually be praised for her viral tune ”Friday.” And that’s just how it played out at the 13th annual Teen Choice Awards, held in L.A. on Aug. 7, where fans crowned their favorites in film, TV, and music. Among the winners who took home the show’s signature surfboard trophies were Taylor Swift, who won six awards, including Choice Music: Female Artist, Red Carpet Fashion Icon, and Ultimate Choice. Other winners were The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows—Part 2, and real-life couple Gomez and Justin Bieber, who earned Choice Female and Male Hottie, respectively. (Bieber also won the unfortunately named Choice Twit award, given to the favorite celebrity Twitter feed.) And who says that teens don’t respect their elders? When EW quizzed the young stars about their favorite teen comedy, most named John Hughes movies, including Justin Bieber, who chose Sixteen Candles — a flick made a full decade before the singer was born. The Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder, 32, was also surprised when he overheard the Biebs’ answer on the red carpet: ”That’s my go-to movie,” he said. ”I didn’t think [Bieber] had ever seen that film!”
