Comic-Con 2011: Movie highlights

Posted on

What happens when a vampire turns up at 11:15 a.m on a sunny Thursday? Why, he glitters, of course. So expect lots of shimmering, glimmering goodness as Twilight: Breaking Dawn — Part 1 dominates the movie lineup on San Diego Comic-Con’s first day on July 21. Summit Entertainment will present new scenes from the first installment in the vampire romance’s finale, along with a filmmaker and cast Q&A.

Here’s what else is on the Comic-Con agenda for cinephiles:

— 12:45-1:45 Sony Pictures Animation will preview Arthur Christmas, about Santa’s high-tech toy-delivery operation, as well as The Pirates! Band of Misfits, with voices by Hugh Grant, Jeremy Piven and Salma Hayek.

— 2-3:00 The cast of Napoleon Dynamite reunites to discuss ligers, etc.

— 3:15-4:30 20th Century Fox brings … something. The studio was set to showcase Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter until it pulled out of the ‘Con last week, but their coveted slot in the grand venue of Hall H remains on the books. What will they show? Probably not Napoleon Dynamite, just to fill space.

— 4:45-5:45 Robert Rodriguez announces upcoming work from his new Quick Draw Productions company.

— 6-7:00 p.m. Guillermo del Toro and Jon Favreau join forces after being recruited by Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury EW’s own Jeff “Doc” Jensen for a discussion of geek culture, pulp fiction and their respective movies Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark and Cowboys & Aliens.
