SWEDE 'N' LOW A bloody good addition to the Scandinavian thriller canon

We gave it an A-

A former hypnotist with a prescription-drug addiction and a murky past comes out of self-imposed retirement after a 15-year-old boy barely survives the vicious slaughter of his entire family. The result is a series of complex and creepy events that spiral ? in unexpected directions. Written by ?a married Swedish couple (Lars Kepler is a pseudonym), The Hypnotist? is hardly groundbreaking — is there a cheaper shortcut to suspense than putting children in harm’s way? — but it’s still a worthy addition to the ?ever-expanding ranks of Scandinavian crime fiction. Expect caffeinated ? beverages, inclement weather, and severed limbs. A-
