James Mangold The Wolverine

Posted on

After Darren Aronofsky dropped out of The Wolverine in March, 20th Century Fox was left in the lurch. Immediately following the announcement, there was no short list of directors who might be able to replace the man who made Black Swan. Now, though, the studio seems to have found someone to helm the sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Deadline reports that Fox is about to start negotiations with James Mangold, whose credits include Knight and Day, 3:10 to Yuma, and Walk the Line.

Star Hugh Jackman is reportedly on board with Mangold. When EW spoke to the actor in late March, he said that the Wolverine team was looking for a prestige filmmaker on par with Aronofsky. “We’re not going to settle. We’re going to find a director as good as Darren, if not better. Well, as good,” Jackman declared.
