Katy Perry adds another layer to her alter-ego in new video preview for 'Last Friday Night (TGIF)'

Beyoncé has Sasha Fierce. Jennifer Lopez sometimes becomes Lola. Nicki Minaj needs a family tree to track her alter egos (including Roman Zolanski and Harajuku Barbie).

Clearly, to be a dominant woman in music today, you have to have more than one personality, and Katy Perry has dipped her toe in that world via her nerdy other half, a 13-year-old braces-wearing girl named Kathy Beth Terry.

Equal parts Joan Cusack from Sixteen Candles and Amy Poehler’s “Kaitlin” character on SNL, Kathy Beth Terry has already appeared in a teaser for the video for “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” (not to mention that single’s cover art), and now she’s in a video that gets a little more inside the personality of Terry. Watch it here:

Perry’s commitment to the role is pretty sturdy (actually, she only really seems to break character when she brings up having that Facebook chat with Katy Perry), though she still has a ways to go before she can eclipse the comedic output of her own husband’s onscreen alter, Aldous Snow.

However, Kathy Beth Terry could probably make a fine foil for Brand in the sequel to the Arthur remake (a movie that sits next to the sequel to Season of the Witch in the Box of Things That Will Never Exist).

In the meantime, the world waits for Perry’s performance in the forthcoming Smurfs flick, which doesn’t appear to feature any alternate versions of Smurfette.

What do you think of Perry’s acting chops and the whole Kathy Beth Terry phenomenon? Are you looking forward to the video for “Last Friday Night” (T.G.I.F.),” featuring a cameo by that-day-of-the-week expert Rebecca Black? Make your thoughts known in the comments.
