Former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver announced they were separating on May 9. Now it seems we know why. The Los Angeles Times reported May 17 that the Terminator star informed his wife he had fathered a child with a member of their household staff. ”After leaving the governor’s office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago,” Schwarzenegger said in a statement. ”There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused.” Since leaving office in January, Schwarzenegger has been plotting his return to the world of entertainment. He’s in talks to star in the film Cry Macho, and also announced that he and Spider-Man co-creator Stan Lee were developing The Governator, an animated TV show partly based on himself. In April, Lee told EW that they were planning to use ”all the personal elements of Arnold’s life,” including Shriver and his children. Following the couple’s split, the show’s producers released a statement explaining Schwarzenegger’s family would be depicted as fictional characters.
