'Captain America': Chris Evans talks superhero's journey into the present

In an interview with MTV’s Josh Horowitz, Chris Evans — erstwhile Human Torch and prospective Captain America — talks a bit about the connection between his solo film and next year’s Avengers. In the process, Evans reveals a mildly spoiler-ish plot point about Captain America that won’t necessarily ruin anything for longtime comic fans, but it’s interesting nevertheless…

Discussing the shift in setting from the ’40s to contemporary times in Avengers, Evans says simply, “In the first Cap movie they bring him into the modern world. That does happen. So it’s established.” Start pondering now, comics fans: Does this mean that Captain America will end with a Twilight Zone-ish sequence where a confused Steve Rogers finds himself trapped on the S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier? (Or maybe in New York?) Or perhaps the closing shot will be Cap’s body trapped in ice, being examined by the armored fingers of Tony Stark? While you’re pondering, check out the full video below:
