Busy Philipps: On my iPod

The former star of ‘Dawson’s Creek’ and ‘Freaks and Geeks’ loves indie rock nearly as much as Laurie, her character on ‘Cougar Town,’ loves merlot

Beach House, ”Walk in the Park”
”Victoria Legrand, who’s the lead singer, is phenomenal, and if you get the chance to see her live I highly recommend it — her voice is ethereal and sort of mysterious and can rock out as well. I love that song so much, it’s even my ringtone.”

Grizzly Bear, ”Ready, Able”
”I have kind of a commute to work, and I find myself listening to Grizzly Bear. It’s really great driving music in the morning with a cup of coffee — I just zone out to the amazing vocal stylings of Ed Droste.”

Jenny and Johnny, ”My Pet Snakes”
”My daughter Birdie, who’s two and a half, asks for it by name every time we get in the car, so I have probably listened to that song more than any other in the past six months. I love that Jenny [Lewis, also Rilo Kiley’s frontwoman] has a little bit of a mid-’90s Juliana Hatfield vibe right now.”

The Band, ”The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down”
”This is a song that I go back to when I’m running because it always gets me going. I hadn’t heard it for years and then my husband had it on a playlist, and now it’s on hard rotation on my iPod.”

Sufjan Stevens, ”Futile Devices”
”I’m a huge fan, and I love almost everything he does. When the album [2010’s The Age of Adz] came out, that’s the song that I had on repeat and listened to 10 times every day for three weeks.”
