Christian Slater's 'Breaking In' opens strong after 'Idol'

Breaking In

Could the third time be the charm for Christian Slater? The actor’s latest TV series effort Breaking In just delivered a strong premiere rating on Fox last night.

Wednesday’s debut delivered 9.9 million viewers and a 3.5 preliminary adults 18-49 rating. Of course, that’s down considerably, as is standard, from Idol (22.5 million, 7.1). But it’s Fox’s highest-rated live action sitcom telecast in three years — beating this season’s post-Idol airings of Raising Hope and Traffic Light.

Also notable last night: ABC’s Mr. Sunshine (4.6 million, 1.6) rose 14 percent this week, thanks to Idol ending a half-hour early. The finale ratings for Off the Map (3.8 million, 1.3) pretty much assured it won’t be back next season. CBS’ Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior (9 million, 2.1) dropped 9 percent to a new low.
