Self-published authors: Who's the next big thing?

Now that Amanda Hocking has scored a huge book deal, these DIY authors might follow in her footsteps

Self-published ebook author Amanda Hocking — who’s sold more than a million of her paranormal romances over the past year — was recently offered a $2 million, four-book deal by St. Martin’s Press. And she’s not the only self-published success out there. Here’s who might get scooped up soon:

Karen McQuestion has published six ebooks since 2009, all romantic comedies or family dramas — and all Amazon best-sellers. One of them has been optioned for a film.

John Locke has not one but six crime novels in Amazon’s current Kindle top 30. He’s sold half a million copies of his books this year alone.

Stephen Carpenter, who wrote and directed the 2001 film Soul Survivors, has an Amazon ebook blockbuster (the crime thriller Killer) to his name.
