ACM Awards: Cohost Blake Shelton tells us what to expect from the show. (Hint: money will change hands)

The ACMs (that’s the Academy of Country Music Awards) air live April 3 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS from Las Vegas.

We’ll be live-blogging them here on The Music Mix, so we were particularly curious what Blake Shelton, the genre’s reigning smart-ass who joins Reba McEntire as cohost, has planned. A tease:

• At least one Charlie Sheen joke “Honestly, I don’t see any way around it. But I’d rather take shots at country artists because I know them, and we’ll laugh about it later,” he says. (“Where I come from, if you talk bad about somebody you haven’t met, that’s a good way to get your a– kicked,” he explains.) Truly, no one is safe. “There are no boundaries with me. I’ll even make a joke, if I have to, about Taylor Swift. And that’s a big no-no these days,” he adds. With a presenters list that now includes Robert Pattinson, Chace Crawford, and Celine Dion, we look forward to his ad libs.

• A little bookmaking on the side “I’ll go backstage, dig through the envelopes, see who won, and then go to the nominees and say, ‘Two hundred bucks, and I’ll tell you.’ If there’s five of them, that’s a thousand bucks right there,” he says. “Then the other four can leave ’cause they didn’t really want to be there anyway.”

• A shout-out to his fiancée, Miranda Lambert Shelton isn’t a betting man when it comes to awards shows where politics are at play. “There’s always those headscratchers where you walk away going How did he win that?, just like everyone did with me last year for Male Vocalist [at the CMAs]. It’s like, ‘Man, I thought George Strait should’ve won that,'” Shelton says. But, he adds, “I can almost guarantee you that Miranda will win an ACM this year because she’s up for, like, 30 of ’em.” (She’s actually up for seven. Check out the full list of nominees here.)

• A preemptive plea for forgiveness “So I don’t have to do this later, I want to apologize right now for my hosting. I don’t know exactly what I’m apologizing for, but just let it be known that I’m payin’ if forward,” he says.

In addition to cohosting and being a nominee, Shelton will also perform at Sunday’s ceremony. Other performers include Entertainer of the Year nominees Jason Aldean, Toby Keith, Miranda Lambert, Brad Paisley, Taylor Swift and Keith Urban, along with Alabama, Dierks Bentley, Ronnie Dunn, Sara Evans, Martina McBride, Reba McEntire, Carrie Underwood and Zac Brown Band with James Taylor.
