Robert Downey out as Oz. Johnny Depp in?

Robert Downey Jr. has dropped out of Disney’s Oz, The Great and Powerful, according to the Hollywood Reporter‘s Heat Vision blog, but Johnny Depp might be willing to take his place as the young Kansas magician whose hot-air balloon gets caught in a tornado. Sam Raimi’s prequel to the Wizard of Oz is set to begin shooting later this year, and Depp has a thriving relationship with Disney, due to the Pirates of the Caribbean films and Alice in Wonderland. UPDATE: According to Downey’s publicist, the Iron Man actor was never officially in Oz: “If you go back, I think we even stated that on the record some months ago, that he wasn’t doing that project.”
