No surprise here: Top-rated hits Grey’s Anatomy and Modern Family are both coming back next fall.
Also on the list, Grey’s successful spin-off Private Practice and Nathan Fillion’s strong-and-steady detective drama Castle.
Here’s who else made the early cut (and who didn’t):
— Cougar Town: Sure, it loses some of its Modern Family lead-in, but it continues to perform well on Wednesday nights and critics say the show has really started to find its voice this season.
— The Middle: ABC’s stalwart comedy manages to perform solidly despite having the tough job of jump-starting the network’s comedy block.
As for the rest….
Desperate Housewives is expected to return. With some of the show’s actresses’ contracts up for renewal, the deal-making could take a bit longer than other shows (as you can probably imagine).
There’s been some rumors that the rather pricey Brothers & Sisters could be in its final season. ABC might wait to see what pilots it’s picking for new fall series before making a decision on its fate.
And, yes, I suspect I know your biggest burning question: “What about V?!”
Since V just returned, ABC is waiting for more ratings data to make a decision on that front, which isn’t surprising and shouldn’t worry fans … (much).
Overall, network sources point out that just because a show isn’t on the first list of renewals doesn’t mean it’s not getting renewed — there are still months before the deadline in May.
